Homelessness and poverty are an international crisis. Bangladesh, with a population of 147.4 million is one of the poorest countries in the world; with an estimated 3.4 million people live in some 5000 slums of its capital city, Dhaka. In 2010, the population of the city of Dhaka has been projected at 17.6 million people, with up to 60% in the slums. Slums, which are heavily populated urban areas characterized by poverty and substandard housing, are not well described in the literature despite their prevalence and the pervasiveness of poverty worldwide. Urban planning to accommodate increasingly large slum areas requires study to determine demographics and determinants of improved quality of life, such as health status, health services, financial stability, education and security.

As we  are going to stay in Bangladesh for five years, many of us knew the  life styles in Bangladesh. This is a picture of a room where whole house hold items kept in one place.Last week My friends and i went to see the slums areas  in Chittagong. This picture  captured by me  with her sad face. I was really  sorry to them when i saw this scene and i”m thinking that sharing a room with more than 5 people without having enough space,  atleast  to sleep is the  hardest thing to think???

which film come to your mind???

i think no one missed the film “Slumdog Millionaire” which has gotten eight oscar awards for its best parts of that film.An eighteen year old boy from the slums of Mumbai finds himself competing on the game show.If you already watched that film i think you know the difficulties that people are facing in slums as well as children in that society.Even if children have talents inside them but the society does not allow them to be superior. This picture makes us to think that  a huge number of people are using one place for lavatory needs.  Just think….. what life meant to them?

Slum dwellers…..

In Dhaka

In Dhaka

This is a picture which shows that living in slums which means living without many beneficial, even necessary things make life more miserable. In my view it is easy enough for people who do not live in slums and who are nestled more or less comfortably in their lives.
